Young Teen Girls Are Struggling!
How do I know? I've been working with girls age 11 - 14 for a number of years. And every time I facilitate a workshop or been brought into speak at an event one of the girls shares something she has never shared before. The girls are telling me they feel safe in the safe space that is created for them. Sometimes the girls share things that even their parents do not know about.
This got me thinking...
What if there was a safe space online via Zoom that girls can come together twice a month and have conversations.
Maybe even hard conversations that they do not have with their parents.
Girls are looking for it. So why not provide it. And do more with it.
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Scarf was born!
More on that in a moment. First I want to tell you a story:
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Scarf starts the week of Jan. 3!
We will meet twice a month for 3 months.
The first Tuesday of the month at 5 pm MST
The third Friday of the month at 5 pm MST
To have the girls in the book club feel like a sisterhood and feel connected to each other on a deeper level I have decided to send around a scarf, and something I've created called The Guardian of the Scarf whose name is Opal. One girl will receive the scarf and Opal at the start. She will keep it for 2 weeks. She can take photos of Opal, as well as herself in the scarf while doing the things she does during those two weeks and upload them to Instagram. She also writes a letter to the next girl in line. More detail on this will be sent out closer to the launch and send out of the scarf to the first girl.
The book is to be determined, yet it will be age and theme appropriate.
